Best AI tools to design a t-shirt from your photo (2026)
There are two kinds of tools: the ones that draw a file, and the ones that draw it and then print the product. Here is which to pick depending on what you want to do — honestly, including where someone else does it better than us.
The short answer
- A one-off gift from a photo, delivered in Europe or the UK: an all-in-one tool like Pose ton design.
- The same, delivered in the US: GPTShirt (printed in the USA, from $19.92).
- Designing for your own merch store: Kittl or Canva, then a print-on-demand service like Printful.
- A slogan with perfectly spelled text: Ideogram is the most reliable for lettering.

How to choose
1. Do you want a product, or a file?
Kittl, Canva, Ideogram and Midjourney give you an image. You then need a printer, a resolution check, the right print area and shipping. For a gift, a tool that prints for you skips all of that.
2. Must your photo stay recognisable?
This is the number one trap: a text-to-image generator draws "a red dog", not your dog. For a portrait of your pet, partner or family you need a tool that starts from the photo and redraws it. Compare on our before / after examples.
3. Where does it ship to?
A US-printed shirt shipped to Europe or the UK costs more to ship and may be hit by import fees. Pose ton design prints in a workshop close to the delivery address, and the price you see is the item price, with shipping added at checkout (free from €50).
4. Text in the design?
AI models still misspell words. With us, add the name or date with the text editor rather than inside the AI prompt. For AI-drawn lettering, Ideogram is currently the most reliable.
