1. A pack is ten times the same card
Start here, because it is the question asked most often and the assumption that causes the most disappointment: one pack = one photo, printed ten times. Not ten photos, not a mixed set.
That is not a limitation once you see what the object is for. A postcard is something you send, and you rarely want to send ten different cards to one person — you want ten of the same card to send to ten people. If you do want several designs, order several packs; each pack carries its own photo.
2. The crop: A6 is small
A6 is 10.5 × 14.8 cm (4.1 × 5.8 in) — roughly a phone screen. Everything that is forgiven on a 30 × 40 cm (11.8 × 15.7 in) frame is punished here.
- Crop to head and chest. Not the whole animal, not the room. At this size a dog in a garden is a grey shape.
- One subject. Two animals side by side works if they fill the frame; one behind the other does not.
- Strong contrast. A dark animal against a dark background disappears at A6 far faster than at A4.
Resolution is rarely an issue at this size — even a modest photo clears 300 dpi over 10 cm — provided you use the original file from the camera roll rather than something pulled out of a chat.
3. Uncoated 300 gsm, and why it changes everything
The card is printed on 300 gsm uncoated stock. That is a deliberate choice and it is worth a paragraph, because it decides what you can do with the object.
Uncoated paper has a slightly textured, matte surface. Ink from a ballpoint bites into it, a fountain pen does not bead, pencil holds. A glossy card — the standard for cheap photo prints — does the opposite: most pens skid, and the ones that write smudge for a minute afterwards.
Since the whole point of a postcard is the message on the back, glossy would have made a nice object that nobody can use. 300 gsm is also thick enough to survive a postbox without a wallet or an envelope.
4. What ten identical cards are for
This is the only object here that is meant to leave the house. A few things people actually do with them:
- Season's greetings with the animal instead of a generic snow scene — the one card people keep on the fridge.
- Thank-you notes after a party, a wedding, a move.
- A moving announcement: the dog in front of the new door, new address on the back.
- A birth announcement where the dog is in the photo, which is the version families actually keep.
- One card, left on a table. For a neighbour who feeds the cat, a vet nurse, a dog walker. It costs almost nothing and it is remembered for years.
5. The real price, and how to compare it
$26.00 for ten cards, shipping included. Compare it against a shop-bought card plus a stamp rather than against a bulk print service: at that level it is roughly the price of two greeting cards, for ten, with your own animal on them.
If you are ordering several packs — different photos, or simply more cards — the quantity discount applies: from 10 items in the basket, 10% comes off automatically; from 25 items, 15%. A pack counts as one item.
6. When to order for season's greetings
Cards are the one item where the deadline is not the delivery, it is the posting. Work back from when you want to post them, not from the 25th.
For Christmas 2026, which falls on a Friday: order by Thursday 10 December for delivery inside the European Union, and by Thursday 3 December for the United Kingdom, the United States and Switzerland — then allow a few more days to actually write and post them. In practice, ordering in late November is the calm version.
7. What “printed in Europe” means here
Nothing is stocked. Your pack is printed to order by Gelato at the site closest to the delivery address, then dispatched: 5 to 10 working days in the UK, Europe and the US, up to 15 elsewhere. Shipping is included in the price shown rather than added at checkout, and nothing is ever out of stock.
And if a card is not the right object
| If you want… | Then… | From |
|---|---|---|
| Something that stays on a wall | A framed print — the same photo, looked at daily | $55.00 |
| Something used every morning | A mug | $23.00 |
In short
- A pack is ten copies of the same card.
- A6 is small: crop to head and chest.
- 300 gsm uncoated — you can actually write on it.
- Printed full-bleed on the front; the back is left blank for you to write on.
- Order by 10 December in the EU for Christmas, then allow time to write them.
Before you order, the preview is computed in your own browser and nothing is transmitted; the print file goes to the printer at payment and is deleted after dispatch. Personalised items are exempt from the standard European right of withdrawal (Directive 2011/83/EU, article 16(c)), and anything that arrives damaged is reprinted at no charge. You must hold the rights to the photo you upload.
