The trick-or-treat bag: the only object that is used on the 31st
Most Halloween purchases are used for three hours and thrown away. A bag is the exception, for three practical reasons that have nothing to do with sentiment.
- Capacity. A cotton tote, 38 × 42 cm (15 × 16.5 in), holds several times what a moulded plastic pumpkin holds — and by the fourth street that stops being a detail.
- Long handles. A child can carry it across a shoulder. A bucket is carried in one hand, and one hand gets tired.
- The name. Six children on a doorstep in the dark, six identical bags. A printed name ends the argument before it starts, and it is also how the bag comes home again.
And it survives: the same bag carries books in November. That is not true of the pumpkin.
Photographing a costume without ruining it
The instinct is to photograph the costume on the night. That is the one time it will not work.
After dark you are shooting with flash. Flash flattens fabric, blows out face paint into a white patch, turns eyes red, and lights the wall behind more than the child. A costume that looks superb in a hallway becomes a pale shape with a bright forehead.
So: take the photo in daylight, a day or a week before.
- Outside or by a window, with the light behind you.
- At the child's eye level — crouch. A photo taken from adult height looks down at them.
- Against a plain background: a wall, a fence, a hedge. Not the living room.
- Burst mode, no flash. Children move, and the good frame is frame nine.
An overcast afternoon is better than bright sun, which throws hard shadows across a face and a hood.
Eight weeks later, it is Christmas
This is the argument that saves most people a second photo session. From late November, in most of Europe and the northern United States, there is no usable daylight left by the time the family is together. The Christmas photo then gets taken at eight in the evening under a ceiling light — and that is the single most common reason a printed Christmas gift disappoints.
A good photo taken in October, in daylight, works for the Halloween bag and for a mug, a calendar or a framed print in December. One session, two occasions. If you do nothing else from this page, do that.
When several people want the same design
A class, a group of cousins, a street of friends. One photo, several bags, one order — and the quantity discount applies automatically: −10% from 10 items, −15% from 25, nothing to enter. Shipping stays included whatever the number of parcels.
Practical note for a group: decide on one photo and one wording before ordering. Changing the name on each bag is easy; changing the photo per bag means one order per photo.
The dates, without optimism
Halloween 2026 falls on Saturday 31 October. Everything is printed to order — there is no stock, so nothing sells out, but nothing is instant either.
| Delivery to | Order by |
|---|---|
| European Union | Friday 16 October 2026 |
| United Kingdom, Switzerland, United States, rest of the world | Friday 9 October 2026 |
Those dates come straight from the printing and delivery window — 5 to 10 working days in the UK, Europe and the US, up to 15 elsewhere — with a small margin. The estimated arrival date is shown on every product page before you order.
If a bag is not the right object
| If you want… | Then… | From |
|---|---|---|
| Something the child wears on the night | A t-shirt — printed with the costume photo, or with a name | $23.00 |
| Something that lasts past November | A mug, or a calendar starting in the new year | $23.00 / |
In short
- A named cotton tote is the one Halloween object that is actually used.
- Photograph the costume in daylight, before the night, at the child's eye level.
- Never flash after dark.
- Order by 16 October in the EU, 9 October elsewhere.
- Keep that photo: it is your Christmas photo too.
Before you order, the preview is computed in your own browser and nothing is transmitted; the print file goes to the printer at payment and is deleted after dispatch. Personalised items are exempt from the standard European right of withdrawal (Directive 2011/83/EU, article 16(c)), and anything that arrives damaged is reprinted at no charge. You must hold the rights to the photo you upload — a photo of your own child is fine; a character costume photographed as you took it is your photograph.
