A new employee starts on Monday. You want them to find something on their desk other than a badge and a password. And since three more people are joining this month, you might as well order everything at once. That is exactly where a personalised welcome kit beats a gift bought one at a time: the same design, the same quality, one order.
What goes into a welcome kit that actually gets used
The rule is simple: objects that stay on the desk or in the bag, not in a cupboard. Three pieces are enough.
- The mug ($23.00) — 325 ml ceramic, dishwasher safe. The object used every single day.
- The tote bag ($35.00) — cotton, 38 × 42 cm (15 × 16.5 in), long handles. For lunch, the gym, the evening shopping.
- The t-shirt ($23.00) — Gildan 64000 Softstyle, unisex S to 2XL. Keep it for teams that already wear company clothing, otherwise it ends up in a drawer.
A mug + tote bag kit comes to $58.00 per person, shipping included. With the t-shirt, $81.00. Nothing is stocked: everything is made to order from the design you upload.
What design to put on it
Two approaches work — one at a time.
The logo alone, if you have a clean one that stays legible small. Upload it on a light background, without a complicated gradient, and give it room: a logo that touches the edges of a mug gets cut off in print.
The team photo, if you are a small company. It is warmer and it says something: these are the people you are going to work with. Choose a photo taken outdoors or near a window, and check that faces are still recognisable once the image is shrunk to mug size. Our resolution guide gives the minimum, product by product.
One tip that avoids regrets: test the design on the smallest object before launching the rest. What works on a tote bag does not always work on a mug.
The quantity discount, in practice
It triggers on its own in the basket, with no code: −10% from 10 items, −15% from 25. Items add up — ten different objects count as ten — so kits accumulate without you having to order ten of the same thing.
- Five mug + tote bag + t-shirt kits = 15 items, so −10%: $364.50 instead of $405.00.
- Ten full kits = 30 items, so −15%: $688.50 instead of $810.00.
- Ten mugs on their own, to keep a stock: $207.00 instead of $230.00.
The page on personalised items in quantity lists the products concerned. Note that the three wooden frames are excluded from the discount and do not count towards the threshold.
Build a stock rather than ordering for each arrival
That is the real gain. If you know you will hire five to eight people this quarter, order the kits in advance in one go: you cross the discount threshold, you do not place an order for each new starter, and on day one the kit is already in the cupboard.
For clothing sizes, the calculation is different: do not guess ahead. Stock the mugs and tote bags, and add the t-shirt or the sweatshirt ($45.00) once you know the person's size. You lose a little discount on those pieces, and you avoid three unused 2XLs. The size guide has the real measurements.
When to order
Everything is printed to order at the site closest to the delivery address: allow 5 to 10 working days in the UK, Europe and the US, up to 15 elsewhere — so one week before the new employee arrives, two if you want room to approve the design. Shipping is included in the price shown, even for a single item.
One thing to know before confirming: these items being personalised, they are exempt from the standard European right of withdrawal. Any printing, manufacturing or transport defect, however, is replaced or refunded. Hence the advice to test on a single object for your first order.
To get started
No account to create, no quote to wait for. Upload the logo or the photo in the online studio, position it on screen, add a first name or a date if you like, and fill the basket kit by kit. The discount appears by itself when the tenth item goes in.
If you are unsure which product to test first, take the mug: the cheapest, the most used, and the one that tells you straight away whether your design holds up.
