The short answerHanukkah 2026 begins on the evening of Friday 4 December and ends on Saturday 12 December. The difficulty is not finding one good gift, it is finding eight without spending a month's budget — and the answer that works is one photo declined across several everyday objects rather than eight separate ideas. A mug, ten postcards, a tote bag and a 2027 wall calendar from the same picture hang together as a series and cost far less than eight gifts. Keep something larger for one night and make the others small. To have it all before the first candle, order by Thursday 19 November 2026 in the European Union and by Thursday 12 November elsewhere.

1. The dates, first

Hanukkah 5787 begins at nightfall on Friday 4 December 2026 and runs for eight nights, ending on Saturday 12 December 2026. As with every Jewish festival the day starts in the evening, so the first candle is lit on the evening of the 4th — which in practice means everything needs to be in the house by the afternoon of that Friday.

2. Eight nights is not eight Christmases

The commercial version of this festival, especially outside Israel, has drifted towards eight substantial presents. Most families who try it discover the same thing: by the fourth night the children barely look up, and the parents are tired and poorer.

The version that works, and that most households settle into, is a rhythm rather than a pile:

Photo objects fit the middle category well, because they are small in price and large in attention: nobody opens a mug with their grandmother on it and says "another mug".

3. One photo, several nights

This is the practical trick. Rather than looking for eight ideas, take one photograph — the family, the grandparents, the dog, the summer — and let it become several objects.

ObjectWho it suitsPrice, shipping included
Ceramic mug, 325 mlThe grandparents, an aunt, anyone with a morning routine$23.00
Ten A6 postcardsFamily abroad — one photo, ten cards, posted through the week$26.00
2027 wall calendar, 14 pagesThe gift that keeps arriving all year, given on the last night
Cotton tote bagA teenager, a student, anyone who carries things$35.00
Framed print, ready to hangThe one substantial gift, for one nightfrom $55.00

They read as a series rather than as repetition, and the total is far below eight separate ideas. If the basket reaches ten items — likely in a large family — 10% comes off automatically, and 15% from twenty-five.

4. When the family orders together

Cousins, grandparents, three households in two countries. The practical version: agree the photo once, one person orders everything, and the cost is split afterwards. Shipping is included in each price, so the total is simply the sum of the prices — no delivery figure to argue about at the end.

Note that items may arrive in several parcels a few days apart, because each object is produced in the nearest workshop able to make it. Order with that in mind rather than panicking on 1 December.

5. The photo, in practice

One warning that saves a disappointing print: candlelight photographs do not print. They are lovely on a screen, and they are dim, very warm in colour and grainy — exactly the three things that come out muddy on ceramic or paper.

So either use a photo from earlier in the year, taken in daylight, or take the family photo in the afternoon of a winter Saturday rather than in the evening. Near a window, light behind you, no flash, burst mode. Ten minutes, and it works for the cards, the mug and the calendar at once.

If the gift includes the grandparents, take the photo with them in it rather than of the children alone — it is the version that gets kept, and the one they would choose themselves.

6. When to order

In short

Before you order, the preview is computed in your own browser and nothing is transmitted; the print file goes to the printer at payment and is deleted after dispatch. Personalised items are exempt from the standard European right of withdrawal (Directive 2011/83/EU, article 16(c)), and anything that arrives damaged is reprinted at no charge. You must hold the rights to the photo you upload.

Frequently asked questions

When is Hanukkah in 2026?
It begins on the evening of Friday 4 December and ends on Saturday 12 December. Each day begins at nightfall, so the first candle is lit on the evening of the 4th.
When should I order to have it before the first candle?
By Thursday 19 November 2026 for the European Union, and by Thursday 12 November for the United Kingdom, the United States and elsewhere. Printed to order: 5 to 10 working days in the UK, Europe and the US, up to 15 elsewhere.
Do I need eight gifts?
No — and eight substantial gifts usually works against itself. One real gift on one night, small ones on the others, and one night with nothing to unwrap.
How do I make several gifts from one photo?
A mug, ten postcards, a tote bag and a 2027 calendar from the same picture read as a series rather than repetition, and cost far less than eight ideas. From 10 items, 10% comes off automatically.
What kind of photo works best?
Daylight, close, one clear subject. Candlelight photographs are lovely on a screen and print muddy — shoot in the afternoon, or use a photo from earlier in the year.
Can I send cards to family abroad?
That is what a pack of ten postcards is for: one photo, ten copies, on 300 gsm uncoated card that takes a pen properly.

Upload one photo: you see it on the mug, the cards, the calendar and the rest.
