September, and the parents' association is already meeting: there is a bingo night in November, a raffle for the school fair, and above all prizes to find. The problem is always the same. Prizes bought at the supermarket are expensive for what they are, nobody fights to win them, and half of them end up in a box at the back of the storeroom.

An object made from a photo of the village, the school or the team changes everything: it cannot be found anywhere else, and that is exactly why people buy one more ticket.

Why a local photo beats a generic prize

A prize works when the winner has a personal reason to want it. The class photo, the group drawing by the Year 3s, the school front under snow, the first team's shirt, the aerial view of the village: nobody can buy these images anywhere else. The mug becomes a keepsake, not just a mug.

In our online studio you upload the photo, position it on screen, add a line of text if you like — “School fair 2026”, the school's name, the year — and that is it. No account to create, and the photo does not leave your browser until payment.

Which prizes to choose, and at what price

For a bingo night the classic rule works: lots of small prizes, a few big ones. Here is what suits the exercise best, shipping included in the price shown:

  • Postcards, $26.00 for a pack of 10, A6 on 300 gsm card: the perfect filler prize, or a gift to slip into each raffle envelope.
  • Mug, $23.00: 325 ml ceramic, dishwasher safe. The prize everyone likes, whatever their age.
  • T-shirt, $23.00: Gildan 64000 Softstyle, unisex S to 2XL. Plan for several sizes.
  • Tote bag, $35.00: cotton, long handles, 38 × 42 cm (15 × 16.5 in). A very good mid-level prize, useful all year round.
  • Wall calendar, in A4 or in A3: twelve months of 2027, a different photo possible each month (the public holidays printed on it are the French ones). The ideal top prize for an autumn bingo night — twelve photos of the school year, and the winner hangs it in the kitchen for a year.
  • Sweatshirt, $45.00, or hoodie, $50.00: the end-of-game prize, the one announced over the microphone.
  • Wooden frame, $55.00 in 21 × 29.7 cm (8.3 × 11.7 in), $75.00 in 30 × 40 cm (11.8 × 15.7 in), $131.00 in 50 × 70 cm (19.7 × 27.6 in): delivered mounted, 200 gsm matte paper. For the prize of honour, or the thank-you gift to the outgoing chair.

The quantity discount, which changes the association's budget

This is where the maths gets interesting for a volunteer treasurer. The discount applies automatically in the basket, with no code: −10% from 10 items, −15% from 25. Items add up, so ten different objects count as ten — you can easily mix six mugs, two tote bags and three calendars.

Two real examples: ten mugs come to $207.00 instead of $230.00, and twenty-five t-shirts to $488.75 instead of $575.00. One point to watch: the three wooden frames are excluded from the discount and do not count towards the threshold. If you are planning a frame for the top prize, budget it separately. All the details are on the page on personalised items in quantity.

Which photo to use, really

A group photo taken on a phone in daylight prints very well. The problem is elsewhere: an image saved from the school's group chat, recompressed three times, or a screenshot. Always ask the person who took the photo for the original file, sent at full quality rather than as a compressed attachment.

The other reflex: the bigger the object, the sharper the photo needs to be. A mug forgives a lot; a 50 × 70 cm frame forgives nothing. Our page on photo resolution for printing gives the figures. And if you are printing a class photo, make sure you have the parents' consent for the children's image: it is the one point where an association really gets caught out.

When to order so you do not panic the night before

Everything is printed to order at the production site closest to the delivery address, so nothing is “in stock”: the lead time is a real production time. Allow 5 to 10 working days in the UK, Europe and the US, up to 15 elsewhere.

For a bingo night or a school fair, work the calendar backwards: the date of the event, minus two weeks to be safe, minus the time you need to gather the photos and get the choice of prizes approved at the meeting — that step always takes the longest. In practice, for a mid-November bingo night, start collecting photos in early October and place the order at the end of October.

A last tip: order one test copy if you can, of the product you will buy in the largest quantity. You will see the real print before ordering twenty-five.

The right starting point

If this is your first time, the combination that works is simple: fifteen or so mugs and tote bags for the everyday prizes, two or three A3 photo calendars for the big prizes, and a frame for the prize of honour. You cross the ten-item threshold effortlessly, the discount appears by itself in the basket, and your prizes finally look like something people want to win.
