Why it is a safe gift
With the in-laws, the risk is the gift that misses: a perfume they do not like, a book they already have, a size that does not fit. A photo gift sidesteps the problem: it is not about their taste, it is about their grandchildren. Nobody ever has one photo of the grandchildren too many.
And it is not impersonal either: you chose the photo, wrote the words, thought about who gets what. It is the opposite of the box of chocolates grabbed at the last minute.

How not to get it wrong
