A printed garment is made to order with your own photo on it, which means it cannot be exchanged for a different size. That single fact is why this page exists, and why it is worth two minutes with a tape measure rather than two minutes of regret.
1. The only measurement that matters
Chest. Everything else follows from it, and it is the one you can check against something you already wear.
- Take a garment you already own — a t-shirt if you are ordering a t-shirt, a sweatshirt if you are ordering a sweatshirt — one whose fit you actually like.
- Lay it flat on a table, front up, and smooth the fabric out. No stretching.
- Measure straight across, from one side seam to the other, about 2.5 cm (1 in) below the armhole.
- Double it. That is the chest measurement of the garment, and it is directly comparable to the “Chest” row in the tables below.
Measuring your own chest works less well: the tables are garment measurements, so they already contain the ease the cut is designed with. Comparing garment to garment removes the guesswork entirely.
2. T-shirt — Gildan 5000, heavy cotton 180 gsm
| Size | S | M | L | XL | 2XL |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Chest (full) | 91.4 cm 36 in | 101.6 cm 40 in | 111.8 cm 44 in | 122 cm 48 in | 132 cm 52 in |
| Half-chest (flat) | 45.7 cm 18 in | 50.8 cm 20 in | 55.9 cm 22 in | 61 cm 24 in | 66 cm 26 in |
| Body length | 71.1 cm 28 in | 73.7 cm 29 in | 76.2 cm 30 in | 78.7 cm 31 in | 81.3 cm 32 in |
Thick cotton, 180 gsm, so the shirt holds its shape rather than clinging — which is also what makes it a good surface for a photo. The cut is a classic unisex straight body.
3. Sweatshirt — Gildan 18000, fleece 280 gsm
| Size | S | M | L | XL | 2XL |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Chest (full) | 102 cm 40.2 in | 112 cm 44.1 in | 122 cm 48 in | 132 cm 52 in | 142 cm 55.9 in |
| Half-chest (flat) | 51 cm 20.1 in | 56 cm 22 in | 61 cm 24 in | 66 cm 26 in | 71 cm 28 in |
| Body length | 69 cm 27.2 in | 71 cm 28 in | 74 cm 29.1 in | 76 cm 29.9 in | 79 cm 31.1 in |
| Sleeve (centre back to cuff) | 85 cm 33.5 in | 88 cm 34.6 in | 90 cm 35.4 in | 93 cm 36.6 in | 95 cm 37.4 in |
Note that a sweatshirt in size S is already wider in the chest than a t-shirt in size S — 102 cm against 91.4 cm. That is deliberate: it is meant to go over something.
4. Hoodie — Gildan 18500, fleece 280 gsm
| Size | S | M | L | XL | 2XL |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Chest (full) | 101.6 cm 40 in | 111.8 cm 44 in | 122 cm 48 in | 132 cm 52 in | 142.2 cm 56 in |
| Half-chest (flat) | 50.8 cm 20 in | 55.9 cm 22 in | 61 cm 24 in | 66 cm 26 in | 71.1 cm 28 in |
| Body length | 68.6 cm 27 in | 71.1 cm 28 in | 73.7 cm 29 in | 76.2 cm 30 in | 78.7 cm 31 in |
| Sleeve (centre back to cuff) | 85.1 cm 33.5 in | 87.6 cm 34.5 in | 90.2 cm 35.5 in | 92.7 cm 36.5 in | 95.3 cm 37.5 in |
The sweatshirt and the hoodie are cut almost identically. If one of them already fits you, take the same size in the other.
5. Between two sizes
| Situation | What to do |
|---|---|
| Sweatshirt or hoodie, between two sizes | Size up. It is worn over a t-shirt, and the body is already straight rather than fitted. |
| T-shirt, you like a relaxed fit | Size up. The shoulder seam sits slightly wider, the body drapes. |
| T-shirt, you like it close to the body | Size down. Be aware the cut is unisex and straight, so it will not taper at the waist whatever size you take. |
| It is a gift and you have no idea | Compare against a garment the person already wears if you can. If not, M covers most adults, and a sweatshirt forgives a size error far better than a t-shirt does. |
6. The print does not grow with the size
This surprises people. The front print file is 30.5 × 40.6 cm (12 × 16 in) and it is the same on every t-shirt size, from S to 2XL. A design is therefore the same physical size on a small shirt and on a large one — it simply occupies more of the small one.
The practical consequence: do not order a larger size hoping for a larger photo. If you want the image to read from further away, crop it tighter before uploading so the subject fills the frame. There is more on that in which photos work on a t-shirt and what resolution you actually need.
7. Washing, and whether it shrinks
Cotton moves a little on the first wash — a centimetre or so in length, less in width. Washing cold and air-drying keeps it to that. A hot wash and a tumble dryer are what genuinely shrink a shirt, and they are also what ages a print fastest.
- Cold wash, garment inside out.
- No tumble dryer.
- No iron directly on the print.
- No bleach or fabric softener on the printed area.
8. Before you order
The preview is computed in your own browser and nothing is transmitted; the print file goes to the printer at payment and is deleted after dispatch. Personalised items are exempt from the standard European right of withdrawal (Directive 2011/83/EU, article 16(c)) — a wrong size is not a fault, so the measurement is worth doing. Anything that arrives damaged or faulty is reprinted at no charge. You must hold the rights to the photo you upload.
