A milestone birthday requires preparation. 30, 40, or 50 years old: these are the ages when a gift must say something, not just fill a box. A well-chosen photo does all the work—it brings back a specific moment, it makes people laugh, it's worth keeping. Here is how to turn an image from your phone into a gift that stands the test of time.
Choosing the right photo for the age
The instinct is to pick the prettiest recent photo. That is rarely the right one.
- 30 years old: a group shot. The weekend, the trip, or the party that everyone is still talking about. At this age, friends are the ones giving the gift, and the group should be in it.
- 40 years old: a recent family photo, or a contrast. An image from ten years ago next to one from today always works.
- 50 years old: an archive. A scanned film photo, a wedding snapshot, or a childhood picture. The older it is, the more powerful the effect.
A simple rule: if the photo makes you smile before it’s even printed, it’s the right one.
Checking if the image will print well
A photo that looks good on a phone screen might be disappointing in a large format. What matters is the definition of the original file, not what you see.
- Always send the original file, never an image retrieved from a WhatsApp or Messenger conversation: these apps compress it.
- For an old photo on paper, a flatbed scan is better than taking a photo of the photo.
- The larger the object, the higher the resolution the file must be. A mug is forgiving; a large frame is not.
We have detailed the useful thresholds in our guide on the resolution required for a beautiful print. Five minutes of reading that will save you from disappointment.
Which object for which budget
Everything is made to order, and the displayed price includes delivery—even for a single item.
- The €16.90 mug: the gift used every morning. 325 ml ceramic, dishwasher safe. Perfect as a supplement to a main gift, or for a colleague.
- The €29.90 tote bag: cotton, 38 × 42 cm, long handles. Useful, visible, hard to go wrong.
- The €37.90 sweatshirt: for a birthday where you want to make an impression. Unisex cut from S to 2XL.
- The 30 × 40 frame at €47.90: black wood, 200g matte paper, delivered assembled, ready to hang. It's the gift that you'll still find on the wall ten years later.
For a milestone birthday, the frame remains the safest bet: the 30 × 40 cm frame is the perfect size—large enough to be seen, sober enough to find its place in any room. It is also available in 21 × 29.7 cm and 50 × 70 cm.
The group gift, when there are many of you
This is often the case for a surprise birthday: fifteen people chipping in, or who each want to leave with something. Two ideas that work well.
- One object per guest. Ten photo mugs with the same group image, handed out at the end of the party: it's a keepsake everyone takes home.
- A set of postcards. The set of 10 in A6 on 300g paper costs €21.90. You can have the guests sign them and present them bound to the birthday person.
Beyond ten items in the cart, a 10% discount applies automatically, and 15% from twenty-five items. No code to enter, it appears on its own in the cart, and the items can be mixed: ten different items count as ten. Concretely, ten mugs come to €152.10 instead of €169.00. Wooden frames are the only ones excluded from this discount. Everything is explained on the quantity orders page.
When to get started
The site advertises 5 to 10 business days for delivery, manufacturing included. This is the timeline you should plan for. Therefore, allow:
- Two weeks before the birthday to be relaxed about a single gift.
- Three weeks for a group order, where you first have to gather the photo, everyone's opinions, and clothing sizes.
Delivery is to France, the EU, the UK, Switzerland and the United States. And because each piece is made from your image, there is no right of withdrawal—however, any defect in printing, manufacturing, or transport will be replaced or refunded.
How it works
There is no account to create. You open the online workshop, you upload your photo, you position it on the screen, you add text if you want—a name, a date, a phrase that only two people will understand—and you order. Your photo does not leave your browser until the moment of payment.
The best advice we can give: choose the photo first, then the object. A strong image works on any medium. A lukewarm image will not be saved by a beautiful frame.
