Every year it is the same conversation in the class parents' group chat: “What are we getting the teacher for Christmas?” And every year it ends three days before the end of term with a candle bought in a hurry. There is a simpler way, and a fairer one: one group order, one photo, and an object the person will actually keep.

Why a group order solves the problem

A school gift is never a single gift. There is the teacher, but also the teaching assistant, sometimes a support assistant, the Tuesday cover teacher, the lunch supervisor, the after-school club leader. Bought one by one, everyone shops on their own and the gifts look alike without adding up to anything. As a group order, one parent collects, every family puts in a few euros, and you end up with a coherent set.

It is also where the price becomes reasonable. From 10 items in the basket, a 10% discount applies automatically; from 25 items it rises to 15%. No code to enter — it appears in the basket. In practice, ten mugs come to $207.00 instead of $230.00. Split between twenty families, the end-of-term gift costs less than a coffee per household. The items do not have to be identical: ten different objects count as ten. The page on personalised items in quantity sums up the thresholds.

Who is on the list (and how not to leave anyone out)

Make the list before choosing the product, not the other way round. In a nursery or reception class you quickly reach six or seven people. Further up, count the class teacher, the language or music teacher, and the lunch staff if the children eat there every day.

  • Write down the exact first names, spelling included: that is what goes on the object.
  • Plan one or two spare items. There is always someone you forgot.
  • If you are including the childminder of one of the children, just add her to the same basket: she counts towards the discount threshold.

Which objects really hold up

A school gift has to be useful, durable, and not take up space. Three formats work well.

  • The photo mug, $23.00: 325 ml ceramic, dishwasher safe. The classic that ends up on the staffroom desk. With a class photo on it, it becomes irreplaceable.
  • The postcards, $26.00 for a pack of 10: A6, 10.5 × 14.8 cm (4.1 × 5.8 in), 300 gsm card. Ideal if you want each child to sign a card for their teacher.
  • The A4 wall calendar, : 2027, 14 pages, spiral bound, a different photo possible each month. Twelve months of class memories — note that the public holidays printed on it are the French ones. The December gift par excellence.

The tote bag at $35.00 also works well for carrying exercise books. If you are aiming for the discount, note that the three wooden frames are excluded and do not count towards the threshold.

The photo: what works, what fails

A group photo taken in the playground at break always beats a posed one. Look for natural light, a plain background, and sharp faces.

  • Use the original from the phone's camera, not a screenshot of a message: an image saved from a chat is usually compressed and prints blurry.
  • Shoot wide: you can crop in the studio, but you cannot add what is missing.
  • On a mug the printed area is narrow. Twenty children in one line will be tiny. Two tight rows work better.
  • Unsure about your file? The guide on photo resolution for printing gives you the benchmarks in thirty seconds.

Think about consent too: if the photo shows children other than your own, ask their parents before printing it. A worry-free alternative: a scanned group drawing, or a photo taken from behind, hoods and hats on.

When to place the order

The trap with a school gift is the deadline: it has to arrive before the last day of term, not after. Everything is printed to order at the production site closest to the delivery address; allow 5 to 10 working days in the UK, Europe and the US, up to 15 elsewhere, production and delivery included.

If the gifts are handed over on Friday 18 December, close the money collection at the end of November and confirm the basket in the first week of December. That leaves room for the end-of-year surprises. The page on when to order a personalised Christmas gift lists the dates not to miss.

Organising it as a group without losing your evenings

One parent orders, otherwise the discount disappears: ten baskets of one item are ten baskets with no discount. Send round a message with the list of people to thank, the amount per family and the deadline. Collect the money first, order second.

There is no account to create: you upload the photo in the online studio, position it on screen, add a line of text if you like — “Thank you Miss Julie, Poppy class, 2026” — and order. The price shown is the price paid, shipping included. One last thing to know: a personalised item is exempt from the standard European right of withdrawal, but any printing, manufacturing or transport defect is replaced or refunded.

One photo, one order, and this year the group chat wraps up in three messages.
