Who gives what
- The godparent — the frame, from $55.00. The photo with the child on the day, or a newborn photo, with the first name and the date. It's the piece that ends up on the nursery wall.
- The parents, to say thank you — the ten cards, $26.00. A photo from the ceremony on the front, a note on the back, sent out within the week.
- Guests — the mug, $23.00. For grandparents especially: the child's photo, seen every morning.
- For the nursery — the canvas, $35.00. A print on a wooden frame, no glass, no glare.
Religious or civil
Some families choose a secular naming ceremony instead of, or alongside, a religious christening. In France, this can take the form of the parrainage républicain, a civil ceremony held at the town hall. It has no legal standing, but it follows the same customs: a godfather, a godmother, a moral commitment to the child. The gifts stay the same; only the wording on the card or frame changes.
The photo, if the ceremony hasn't happened yet
To give the gift on the day itself, you have to order before the ceremony, so without a photo from it. Take a photo of the child with their godparent beforehand, or use a newborn photo. Save the photo from the ceremony for the thank-you cards, ordered the day after.
Shipping included in every price, no minimum order. Printed to order near the delivery address, delivered in 5 to 10 working days in the UK, Europe and the US, up to 15 elsewhere.
Questions we get asked
What's a good christening gift? Something that carries the date and a photo of the child: a wooden frame from $55.00, a mug at $23.00 or a canvas at $35.00, shipping included.
What can a godparent give? A frame with a photo of the child and their godparent, the first name and the date of the christening. It's the piece that ends up on the nursery wall.
Is a civil naming ceremony treated differently? Not really: the same gifts work for a secular naming ceremony or a civil baptism, such as France's parrainage républicain, held at the town hall. Only the wording on the card or frame changes.
How long does delivery take? 5 to 10 working days including printing in the UK, Europe and the US, up to 15 elsewhere. Order at least two weeks before the ceremony.
