1. The date, by country
This trips up more people than it should, particularly in families spread across two countries.
| Where | Rule | In 2027 |
|---|---|---|
| United Kingdom, Ireland | Mothering Sunday — the fourth Sunday of Lent, three weeks before Easter | Sunday 7 March 2027 |
| United States, Canada, Australia, Germany | Second Sunday of May | Sunday 9 May 2027 |
| France | Last Sunday of May, unless it falls on Pentecost | Sunday 30 May 2027 |
The British date moves every year, because it is tied to Easter — which is why a date that worked last year is not a safe guess this year. The May dates are stable.
2. Which photo
The instinct is a nicely arranged family portrait. It is almost never the one that lands.
- Her with the children, on an ordinary day. Kitchen, beach, doorstep. Not everyone lined up and smiling.
- A photo she took herself and is proud of. A grandmother who photographs her garden, a mother who photographs the dog. Printing someone's own photograph large is a compliment nobody expects.
- An old photo. Her as a child, her holding you as a baby, her at twenty. This one is disproportionately effective.
One rule that matters more here than anywhere else: if she is in the photo, make sure it is a photo she likes. Mothers are often particular about pictures of themselves, and printing one she has always disliked is a real misfire — however good you think the photo is.
3. Which object
| If she… | Then… | From |
|---|---|---|
| Displays photographs, has walls and shelves | A framed print — delivered assembled, ready to hang | $55.00 |
| Lives with objects rather than displaying them | A mug. Used every single morning, which is more contact than a frame gets. | $23.00 |
| Already owns everything | A calendar — twelve photos, and a reason to think of you every month | |
| Is out constantly — market, garden, school run | A tote bag | $35.00 |
For several children giving together: agree the photo first, one person orders everything, split afterwards. From 10 items in the basket, 10% comes off automatically.
4. If it is for a grandmother
The same rules, with one addition: grandmothers tend to have the strongest reaction to photographs of the grandchildren with them, rather than photographs of the grandchildren alone. It is the same principle as everywhere else on this site — the subject is the relationship, not the child.
And if the gift includes a photo of someone who has died — a grandfather, a mother — give it privately and say what it is before she opens it. That single sentence lets her react the way she needs to rather than the way a room expects.
5. When to order
Two weeks before, minimum. Printing to order takes 5 to 10 working days in the UK, Europe and the US and up to 15 elsewhere, and the date does not move for you.
| For | Order by, comfortably |
|---|---|
| Mothering Sunday, UK — 7 March 2027 | Around 19 February 2027 |
| Second Sunday of May — 9 May 2027 | Around 23 April 2027 |
| Last Sunday of May, France — 30 May 2027 | Around 14 May 2027 |
The estimated arrival date is calculated and shown on every product page before you order.
In short
- Check the date for the right country — the British one moves every year.
- Her with the children, or a photo she took herself. Not the posed portrait.
- If she is in it, it has to be a photo she likes.
- Frame to keep, mug to use, calendar for someone who has everything.
- Order two weeks ahead.
Before you order, the preview is computed in your own browser and nothing is transmitted; the print file goes to the printer at payment and is deleted after dispatch. Personalised items are exempt from the standard European right of withdrawal (Directive 2011/83/EU, article 16(c)), and anything that arrives damaged is reprinted at no charge.
