The answer depends on the mug, not on the photo
There is no single rule for “the personalised mug”. What matters is what the seller states for their model. Three things to read on the product page:
- The material: ceramic, glass, enamel, metal. A metal mug does not go in the microwave, whatever the print.
- The dishwasher mention: written in black and white, or missing. If it is missing, assume hand washing is the safer option.
- The microwave mention: it is separate. A mug can be dishwasher safe without being made for the microwave, and the other way round.
If the page says nothing, ask the seller before ordering, especially for a gift that will be used every day.

The habits that keep a printed mug looking good
Even when the dishwasher is allowed, a few simple habits avoid bad surprises:
- No abrasive sponge on the printed area if you wash by hand.
- No sudden thermal shock: a scalding mug dropped into icy water is bad for any ceramic.
- Wedge the mug properly in the dishwasher so it does not knock against other items.
- In the microwave, only if the mug is stated compatible, which ours is.

Mistakes to avoid
- Assuming all mugs are the same: the dishwasher mention is specific to each model and each seller.
- Mixing up dishwasher and microwave: they are two separate mentions.

- Choosing a photo that is too small: the workshop warns you, and a blurry photo supplied by the customer is not refunded.
